There are a few special moments in life when joy leaves you speechless. It is nearly impossible to explain how people feel when they get married or when they learn they are going to be parents. These precious times are fodder for years of joyful memories. Sadly, though, there are far too many people dealing with situations that are not nearly as joyful. In the case of awaiting parenthood, there is a growing number of couples who are finding it difficult to have a child.

For many such unhappy couples, fertility doctors seem to be their only hope. Although this is understandable, you should know that there are alternative, natural options that can be effective without the side effects and ethical questions associated with artificial fertilization methods.

Small changes really add up. Take a look at some areas where you can take baby steps toward improving your health and lifestyle, essentially baby steps toward your baby. One area where your lifestyle may be sabotaging your dreams is stress. It alters the body’s chemistry from head to toe. A good exercise routine decreases stress levels, stimulates general well-being, and helps your body reach a healthy weight, fundamental for future parents. It’s important to drink at least eight glasses of water every day, eat fresh fruits, include vegetables in every meal, and replace refined products with brown alternatives. Avoid processed foods entirely. Protein is an important component of a healthy diet. Those who avoid animal products and suffer from infertility often discover that they have a lack of real, unprocessed protein sources. Adding them back into the diet may be enough to get the body functioning well again. Avoid smoking, cut out alcoholic drinks, and limit the intake of caffeine to detox the body and increase fertility chances.

If I may just stress a point, smoking while pregnant is a big no no. If you are a smoker when you finally get pregnant, quit instantly. The damage it can cause an unborn child can be substantial.

In addition to making your body as healthy as it can be, you can work together as a couple to strategically plan conception. Despite the fact that children have been born for thousands of years, the process is so intricately dependent on timing that each conception is a miracle. For this reason, it is optimal to be intimate only occasionally leading up to ovulation in order to allow more sperm to build up and increase the odds of one reaching the egg. This will give the sperm time to build up and penetrate further.

It is not enough to merely make time for intimacy. You also must determine when you ovulate. For example, keep a calendar of your menstruation and ovulation periods. Once you begin timing your cycle, you will be able to recognize your fertile period and make time for intercourse. Be sexually active on the day of your ovulation or a few days before and after that. Do not, however, turn love-making into a scheduled robotic process; rather, keep it fun and stress-free.

Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, your diet might lack a few essential nutrients or vitamins. By not eating right, you are causing your body to be less fertile. Take supplements to complement a healthier eating plan. Consume adequate amounts of vitamin B12 and vitamin C. These can be found in fruits and vegetables. Foods rich in protein, such as turkey and eggs, as well as zinc-rich foods will increase the fertility of a man. Iron, folic acid, and selenium are beneficial to women. Women should also try evening primrose oil to boost their fertility levels.

Make sure problems, including fertility concerns, stay out of the bedroom. Once the act is reduced to a mere process to beget children, it leads to increased tension in the couple, thus lowering your chances of conceiving. Instead, enjoy your moments of intimacy and passion, while also adhering to a healthier and mroe stress-free lifestyle. If, despite diligently practicing a healthy lifestyle, you fail to conceive within a year, two if you are quite young, then perhaps it is time to seek medical help.
