Although it may seem weird to you that I talk about slimming apparel a lot, there’s a reason for it. Stop everything else you are doing, because this is a lengthy story. So stay right where you are.
Well I’ve always loved Oprah. I mean who doesn’t She’s an American Icon who made it to where she is by utilizing her mind, her social prowess, and overcoming a huge self esteem issue caused by an obesity issue. It’s only reasonable that an ‘overweight’ woman that ‘decided’ she would conquer the world and did conquer the world (quite literally) would become an American Icon.
So I also was a chunky child. OK maybe I wasn’t huge, but when everyone at school was trying to stay under a hundred pounds, my one-hundred and twenty five pound weight definitely made me feel insecure. As a young teenager I avoided pool parties, disco parties, sleep overs, skating rings, school dances, sporting events, etc. I pretty much ducked out of all social situations that required me to wear form fitting clothes.
And so I would stay in every night, get out a carton of ice cream and watch Oprah reruns. Let me tell you- I loved Oprah.
So you can imagine my surprise, excitement and utter exclamation of ‘Hail Mary’ when one day in my mid-twenties I catch an episode of this woman named Sara on Oprah’s show! . She’s talking about footless pantyhose, slimming apparel, and much more. So I Google her. And I find the answer to everything I’ve ever wanted- Full Figure Shapewear! I feel like I’ve discovered gold! As I frantically search the web for more information I realize that there’s something like full figure shapewear has existed since the 18th century. It seems that shapwear of the 18th century is actually synonymous with the foundation garment. So brassieres and corsets of the 18the century are synonymous with today’s shapewear. Thankfully today’s shapewear is not as uncomfortable as corsets and brassieres were. In fact, contrary to popular perception, when I wear Firm Shapewear I don’t feel constricted at all. I feel light and without a care. My posture improved, I was able to go on dates without worrying about bumps sticking out in the wrong places, wear white pants, and look pretty great in just about anything.
And you wouldn’t believe, once I got my confidence, I began to want to look EVEN better. So basically, once I started wearing firm Shapewear, I began to want to push my body to improve. I began to go to the gym regularly. I learned the power of eating healthy, because I had come to respect my body. I stopped drinking alcoholic beverages. I stopped smoking cigarettes. All I needed was that feeling of ‘not worrying’ constantly about my weight. Slimming Apparel did that for me. Once I was comfortable in my clothes I was able to completely transform my lifestyle.
Well you could say that it was actually Oprah who changed my life. Since I would never had scoured the internet for everything shapewear had it not been for that legendary Oprah episode.
So tell me. What was it that transformed my life?
