There are occasions, like it or not, when the parentage of a child is called into question by other parties. If this ever happens then the correct way to put the matter to rest is with a DNA test. A paternity test is used in several types of cases but the usual time when this comes into play is when divorce or some other act of infidelity has risen its head and money has to be paid for the upkeep of the child.

These are trying times for sure and the demand to have a child confirmed is usually when adults are extremely upset with each other. Tempers flare and accusations start to fly and this kind of procedure is the to end the arguments with a definitive answer in the end. But it is not only in this kind of case where fathers are being pursued. Murder and kidnap cases will also attract this kind of intervention to establish where the person came from. Bodies that have been found after many years are unrecognizable for sure so the scientists have to look for another way to identify the body. Then they also have to be linked to other family members to confirm their identity once and for all.

In cases of kidnap where the child has grown up whilst being in the keeping of the kidnapper, parents will often think that they will recognize their own child but the police have to be sure that another crime is not about to be committed. Taking evaluations from all concerned is really the only way to be sure of the identity of the person in question so it is a good thing that these kinds of evaluations are available. Again, whenever there is a death in the family, particularly if that family is wealthy, some people are known to claim part of the inheritance illegally. No one was aware of the child so the interloper wants to get some money from the estate for sure. In these cases the evaluation is a way of proving or disproving that the man in question fathered another child outside the general family group as a whole.

The evaluation is quite a simple procedure. A swab is taken from the inside of the mouth of anyone who says that the deceased was their father. Then a similar swab is taken from the proposed father for checking purposes. When these are matched scientifically they should show if the people concerned have blood ties to each other. In the case of involuntary evaluations, hair follicles or some other kind of blood or bodily fluid is taken, perhaps surreptitiously in some cases, for any work to be done on it. Either way the results will still be the same and everyone will have proof at last of what has gone on.

In some cases, these evaluations are sometimes the subject of court cases. Anyone has a right to refuse the evaluation of course, but if a court orders it then that choice is taken away. Men have been known to try to get out of paying alimony on the grounds that the child was not fathered by them but this can be found out easily.
