There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to lose a few pounds. It is rare to find someone who is one hundred percent happy with the number that appears on the scale when they weigh themselves. The key is to look at your own weight loss in the right light. If you look at it and think that a fad diet is the best way to go you won’t lose more than a few pounds and they’ll just get gained right back. A negative attitude is not going to be helpful at all if you want to lose weight. Try your best to keep your attitude positive and follow these weight loss tips.

Take progress pictures. You may hate the idea of having a “before” photo. But take at least one anyway. You can take as little as one photo each week while you work on your weight loss program. A before and after photo are not enough. You should document the whole process with photos. You can use the photos to help you stay motivated and inspired as you work to lose weight. It is easier to stay with a weight loss program if you can see it working on you. Sometimes simply looking into the mirror is not enough. Some people simply need to be able to compare their current selves to something so that they can see just how much their hard work and efforts are paying off.

In addition to cardio and aerobic training, make sure to get in some strength training as well. You might think that all you need to do is raise your heart rate and increase your endurance levels. The simple fact is that, without strength training, you can never increase the effectiveness or intensity of your workout routine. Being able to make your workout routines more intense over time is what gets you into shape.

If you hit an exercise plateau you will have a harder time staying in shape and losing weight. Strength training is necessary for people who want to get healthier than they are right now.

Keep a food journal. Even though it sounds like a bunch of extra work, it can really help in the long run.

A food journal is not kept because you want to track every single calorie that goes into your mouth (though that could be helpful later on when you need to plan out your exercise routine for the day). Writing down what you eat will help you establish your eating patterns: what kinds of foods and tastes you gravitate toward. The main idea behind a successful diet is to find a way to replace the junky food you love with healthier alternatives of the same basic tastes and textures. For example: instead of reaching for strawberry candy or ice cream, eat some strawberries! Writing out a food journal helps with this task which makes it easier for you to make your diet a success.

Plenty of people out there are concerned about weight loss. Almost everybody thinks that they have some weight to lose. Approaching the weight loss process correctly is the key to losing weight in a healthy way. If you don’t approach weight loss with a healthy mindset you probably won’t lose any pounds at all and you will be more likely to gain back most (if not all) of the pounds you do manage to lose.
